We believe a child’s background should not determine their outcomes in life.
We aim to develop ground-up leadership in high-need communities for sustainable change. The past years have shown us that we must foster leadership at every level, from the classroom to the highest levels of leadership across Malaysia to achieve education equity. Thus, Teach For Malaysia aspires that by 2030, there will be a significant number of youths across the country driving locally-led community solutions, upholding their civic responsibility, and be more prepared to pursue their desired career pathways.
There currently isn’t an established Student Leadership Development framework developed and implemented in Malaysia. Hence, with the support of Citi Foundation, Ministry of Education, and private and public partners, “Building Leaders of Today for Tomorrow” aims to empower Student Leadership and Student Voice in and outside of the classrooms. All youths will be trained based on Teach For Malaysia’s Student Leadership Development Framework which anchors on Social and Emotional Learning, Communication Skills, Resilience and Entrepreneurship.
About Teach For Malaysia
Teach For Malaysia is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, on a mission to give all children the opportunity to attain an excellent education. It is one of the 60 partners of the prestigious global education network, Teach For All. Since 2012, Teach For Malaysia has been building a transformational movement in our education system by placing the country’s most promising leaders as full-time teachers in some of Malaysia’s most high-need schools to combat education inequity. In 2020, we expanded our work to also train and coach in-service public school STEM teachers through the 2-year Program Duta Guru (PDG).
The Citi Foundation was established in 1998 by Citigroup. The foundation partners with over 250 community organisations across more than 80 countries and territories to tackle social, economic and environmental challenges. The Citi Foundation’s purpose is to promote economic opportunity for low-income individuals and communities around the world. The foundation focuses on efforts that increase financial inclusion and economic opportunities for youth and on activities that create solutions for challenged communities.
"Each of our students can make a difference in their respective communities, not just in the future, but today, and we are committed to empowering them to be able to do so."
